Cement prices to be cut for govt. supplies

NEW DELHI: Cement prices will be cut by five per cent for supplies to Central government projects, Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath said here on Monday.

Mr. Kamal Nath also said the manufacturers agreed to ensure adequate supply for retailers and increase production.

However, official sources said cement companies had not given any commitment to freeze prices, nor had they agreed to reduce prices for other categories of consumers.

Mr. Kamal Nath had a meeting with the Cement Manufacturers' Association on Monday after he gave an ultimatum on Friday that the companies should come back to the Ministry with a proposal to check surging prices. — PTI
