PONDICHERRY: N. Rangasamy will be sworn in as Chief Minister, heading a Congress Government, on May 18. Lt. Governor M.M. Lakhera will administer the oath to Mr. Rangasamy at the function to be held on the premises of Arnicas at 9 a.m. As the names of other Ministers have not been finalised, induction of other members will take place in a phased manner, according to an informed source. The Congress, which has 10 members in the 30-member Assembly, is forming a minority government and has the unconditional support of the seven-member Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the two-member Pattali Makkal Katchi and the lone Communist Party of India member. These parties are supporting the Government from outside.
High command nod
Mr. Rangasamy, Pradesh Congress Committee president P. Shanmugham, former Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam and AICC general secretary V. Narayanasamy MP are camping in New Delhi to obtain the high command's nod before finalising the list of Ministers. The party has to consider several factors while finalising the Ministers. While seniority, past performance and dedication will be among crucial yardsticks applied, regional balance has to be maintained and minorities accommodated.
