ANANTAPUR: Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) laid a siege to the MPDO's office at Bukkarayana Samudram near here on Monday alleging neglect of eight colonies around the village in the implementation of welfare and development programmes. Led by CPI leaders P. Narayanaswamy, Ravindranath and Keshava Reddy activists and residents of the eight colonies staged a protest in front of the MPDO's office and did not allow visitors into the office after sending out the staff. They alleged that in spite of repeated representations to consider the people in the eight colonies for development and welfare schemes, including the NREGS, there had been no response from the officials. Besides, they were not issued with ration cards and the colonies lacked basic amenities like roads, drainage, drinking water and others.
Official's assurance
They called off the protest in the afternoon after MPDO Narayana assured them that a survey would be done in the colonies to identify problems and they would be resolved soon.
