Eight-member dacoit gang busted

Cash and silk sarees recovered

ANANTAPUR: The police on Monday arrested an eight-member dacoit gang. Cash and silk sarees worth Rs. 1.4 lakhs were recovered from their possession. Eight hunting sickles were also seized.

Giving details to newspersons here, G.S. Seshagiri Rao, Additional Superintendent of Police, said the gang was suspected to have been involved in three major dacoities in the district from August 2004. It was estimated that valuables and cash looted by the gang was around Rs. 9 lakhs.

The arrested include V. Nagaraju and M. Pullaiah of Yerraguntapalli, K. Narayana and C. Peddanna of Alur, both in Tadipatri mandal, P. Kambagiri of Garladinne, Laxminarayana of Pasuluru, both in Pedda Pappur mandal, C. Bala Narasimhulu of weavers' colony in Tadipatri and M. Venkata Krishnaiah of Ankireddypalli in Kolimigundla mandal of Kurnool district.

G.S. Karunakar, Anantapur DSP, A. Srinivasulu and G. Veeraraghava Reddy, Circle Inspectors, were also present.
