Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal: The BJP Mahila Morcha's two-day Madhya Pradesh executive committee meeting, which concluded here yesterday, passed a proposal against spiralling prices and demanded that the Congress-led UPA Government should check the hike. "The regime's erroneous policies are leading to a constant increase in common consumer durables' rates," the Morcha's State chairperson Anju Makhija told reporters here on Monday. The activists warned that if prices rose unchecked then the Morcha would unleash a countrywide agitation. Participants expressed concern over female foeticide and decided to initiate an awareness campaign besides making women's upliftment schemes reach even the forest-dwellers. "The Morcha undertook a nationwide signature campaign favouring one third reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies. The then NDA Government even endeavoured to table a Bill in Parliament but the Opposition did not allow it," Ms Makhija added. Expressing dissatisfaction over limited women's participation in Madhya Pradesh's BJP Government, she explained that the Morcha broached the subject with the Government and party organisation. "The Morcha's future programmes were accorded final shape at the meeting. District-level child health camps will be set up on `Bal Suraksha Diwas' on June 1; intensive plantation will take place on World Environment Day on June 5 along with a campaign for banning polythene; anti-terrorism seminars are scheduled for Pandit Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's martyrdom anniversary on June 23 and programmes for girls will be organised on World Population Day on July 11," Ms Makhija added. -- UNI
