BHOPAL: Junior Government doctors here in the State capital joined the Indian Medical Association-called all-India strike on Monday and took out a procession to lodge a protest against reservation and "brutal" police action against the striking doctors in Mumbai this past Saturday. The junior Government doctors boycotted work and started gathering outside Hamidia Hospital in the morning shouting anti-reservation and anti-Arjun Singh slogans. One of their placards said that the Union Human Resource Development Minister was bent on ruining merit and the capabilities of meritorious students. The striking doctors later took out a procession. Through a memorandum addressed to the State Governor, the Junior Doctors' Association has lodged a strong protest against the Central Government's proposed move to extend reservation for OBCs in national institutes. They have also demanded strict action against those responsible for using brute force against the protesting medical students in Mumbai. Their memorandum says that the idea of reservation in higher education and premier institutions of technology and medical sciences will have a negative impact on the quality of services at these levels. It further points out that reservation in higher medical education would be counter-productive since medical education is full of complexities and challenges. Any individual who comes to acquire skills at this level should be armed with enough basics to tackle these complexities, it has been emphasised.
