Move to curb waterlogging

NEW DELHI: Delhi Planning and Finance Minister A. K. Walia has called for better coordination among civic agencies to curb incidents of waterlogging on roads during the monsoon.

At a meeting here on Monday, Dr. Walia reviewed the efforts of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Public Works Department, Delhi Jal Board, Irrigation and Flood Control Department and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and instructed the agencies to intensify efforts for de-silting of drains and complete the work within 45 days.

Hire-purchase scheme

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Cabinet on Monday decided to bring 295 industrial flats near Okhla Industrial Estate under the hire-purchase scheme, thereby allowing the allottees to own their industrial units. Under the scheme, the Delhi Government will charge an interest of 12.25 per cent on the monthly rental of the flat.

The Cabinet also decided to convert the "reform loan'' of Rs. 3,450 crores granted to Delhi Transco Limited to interest-free "soft loan'' to avoid a tariff increase.

IIM-L starts work on new campus

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, formally started work on its new campus in Noida near here over the weekend.

"The academic structure of the new campus has been designed through many consultative rounds within the academia and the industry. We are proud to extend the excellence of IIM Lucknow to the National Capital Region," said IIM Lucknow Director Devi Singh.

The new campus will have a well-equipped library and a modern computer centre besides furnished hostels.

Malayalam Literary Competition

NEW DELHI: Gayathri, a leading organisation of Malayalis in the Capital, is organising its ninth Malayalam Literary Competition this year.

The competition will be in two categories -- short story and poetry. The first prize in each category will have a cash component of Rs.2001, a memento and a certificate, while the second prize in each category will comprise Rs.1501, a memento and a certificate. Only one entry will be entertained from a person in each category.

Participants should be above 25 years. The last date for receiving entries is July 15.

DERC order stayed

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday stayed an order by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) allowing the private power distribution companies here in the Capital to charge general consumers for certain facilities extended to farmers. Staying the DERC's order of November 2005 on a petition by non-governmental organisation Jan Sahyog, Justice Pradeep Nandrajog directed BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, BSES Yamuna Power Limited and North Delhi Power Limited to file replies to the petition by July 7.
