NEW DELHI: The power distribution company BSES has warned its customers in the Capital to guard against unscrupulous elements posing as its employees and coming over for making collections. This follows a bizarre incident in which a resident of LIG DDA Flats at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi received a fake bill purportedly issued by the Enforcement Division of BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) seeking a penalty of Rs 1.2 lakh for alleged misuse of his 1 KW meter.
Fast buck
Realising that the bill was sent by some unscrupulous elements in a bid to make a fast buck, BSES said that the customer was approached by members of a gang posing as BSES officials. The gangsters charged that the customer's electricity meter was running slow and wanted to take it away with them. They also told the customer that this was a serious offence and he would have to pay a heavy penalty.
Alert customer
However, as they suggested that the customer reach a monetary "settlement'' for a lesser amount, the alert customer got suspicious and did not pay them any money. He also refused to allow them to take away the meter and instead visited the local BSES office.
Report
Following the incident, BSES has urged all power consumers to remain alert against such unscrupulous elements and report any demand for such illegal gratification to the company at once. It has also brought the matter to the notice of the local police for bringing such gangs to book.
