Anna University forges ties with Chinese institutions for research

Academic cooperation planned in a range of disciplines

CHENNAI : Anna University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Wuhan University for joint research and academic cooperation in a range of disciplines.

The MoUs were signed during the Anna University Vice-Chancellor, D. Viswanathan's recent visit to China.

The research cooperation will cover nanotechnology, biotechnology, software engineering, materials science and engineering, besides other areas of mutual interest. The MoU will also facilitate exchange of students, young faculty members and conduct of joint seminars and conferences.

Meanwhile, another MoU has been formalised with Jiangsu Education Service for International Exchange (a Government of China organisation) for cooperation with several institutions in the Jiangsu Province of China. Under this scheme, the South East University of China and Nanjing University have agreed to work closely with Anna University for research and development in key areas of technology.

Discussions

The Vice-Chancellor had discussions with the Sino-India Education and Technology Alliance, which would enable around 1,000 Chinese students to join Anna University's information technology-related courses every year.

The Sino-India Education and Technology Alliance has expressed willingness to support Anna University for infrastructure development to the tune of $2 million . The Alliance is also into discussions with several multinational software companies established in China for their support and participation in the Information Technology Park proposed at Anna University.

Participating in a meeting hosted at the Indian Embassy in Beijing, the Vice- Chancellor discussed possibilities of establishing international cooperation with some other Chinese Universities and institutions.
