The Russian Culture Centre here is preparing to host an eight-day-long festival of Russian films in the first week of June. Contrary to the practice so far, the films will be those that have been made between 1995 and 2005. Till now, the Centre used to concentrate on showcasing classical Russian movies that had a lot to do with either the second World War or its aftermath. "The idea is to introduce new Russian directors and actors. We also want to show the local audience here how Russian movies are slowly imbibing European characteristics," Centre director Ratheesh Nair said. The movies that will be screened at the festival will be those that capture life as it is in Russia today, he added. About 10 movies shot during 1995-2005 will be selected for screening at the festival, Mr. Nair said.
