A Parent Education Programme on Baby Care was held in Kochi on the occasion of Mother's Day on Sunday. Organised by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Kochi, the programme was about caring for babies in the first three years. Young mothers and other caregivers do not have enough knowledge about giving proper care to their babies, said D. Pratap Kini, president, IAP, Kochi. Some of the old practices do not hold good now, he said. The class held for about 50 mothers discussed new concepts. Experts talked about evolving a change in attitude and bringing new concepts into practice. Paediatricians Jeeson C. Unni, Abraham K. Paul and Dr. Kini led the class. Breastfeeding, infant-mother bonding, aspects of feeding and weaning, immunisation, taking care of minor ailments, emotional support of the child were some of the topics discussed. Shyama Rajagopal
