Pandits to visit Sharda temple
Staff Reporter
Jammu:
A 50-member Kashmiri Pandit delegation is to visit the Sharda temple located in Neelum district of the Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, adjoining Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The PoK Government is ready to facilitate the visit of Pandits and had sometime back sent an invitation to the community.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, T.N. Razdan, Chairman of the Kashmir Vichar Manch, said: ``We have been invited by the PoK Government to visit the temple and the invitation has been accepted. Religious Affairs Minister of the PoK Government Sahibzada Yaqub has written to us and we are finalising the list of pilgrims.''
The famous temple has a special significance in the evolution of the people of Kashmir as an intellectual identity and it was an ancient site of learning in the subcontinent. The indigenous script of Kashmir has been named after the presiding deity, Goddess Sharda. The earliest known records in which the Sharda images appear are the coins of the Utpala dynasty of Kashmir (9th Century).
