This Day That Age
Mr. A.C. Guha, Minister for Revenue and Defence Expenditure, said in the Rajya Sabha on May 15 that a Bill to nationalise the State-associated banks would be introduced in Parliament before long. Earlier, replying to Mr. Maheswar Naik, he said no State-associated bank had so far been taken over by the State Bank of India. The question of integrating these banks with the State Bank was still under consideration. It was not possible to indicate any time schedule in this matter or the order of priority according to which these banks would be integrated. Declining to answer questions about individual banks, he said the whole question was under consideration and any reply by him in respect of individual banks would encourage speculation.
