SWR plans to introduce facilities to book tickets through credit card

`Computerised charting will add to accuracy'


  • Computerised Control Charting System to be introduced in Bangalore shortly
  • Freight target for the zone has been set at 50 million tonnes for the current year
  • Many facilities for passengers are in the pipeline

    HUBLI: The South Western Railway will introduce facilities to book platform tickets through SMS and journey tickets through credit card and other facilities for passengers shortly.

    Addressing the 51st Railway Week Celebrations of the Hubli Zone of South Western Railway here on Tuesday, Trilok Nath Perti, General Manager, SWR, said many facilities for passenger were in the pipeline.

    Train movement

    Mr. Perti said the Computerised Control Charting System (CRIS), which helps in tracking the movement of trains, would be introduced in Bangalore shortly.

    With computerised charting, the Railways can track train movements with more accuracy as data on the position of trains in transit would be fed into a central system. With computerised charting, the arrival and departure timings of both freight and passenger trains could be arrived at more accurately, Mr. Perti added.

    Lauded

    Mr. Perti said the zone, particularly the Hubli Division, had done well in the last financial year and congratulated the Divisional Railway Manager and his team for the good performance.

    Mr. Perti said the freight target for the zone has been set at 50 million tonnes for the current year and there had been proportionate increase in the passenger traffic target.

    He called upon employees to strive hard to keep up the growth.

    Awards

    Later, Mr. Perti distributed silver medals, cash prizes and certificates of merit to employees of various sections of the Hubli Railway Division. As many as 260 employees received awards.

    L.V.S.S. Patrudu, Deputy Personnel Officer, Hubli Division, welcomed the gathering. K.D. Mainrai, Divisional Manager, presented a report on the performance of the Hubli Division.

    Amarnath Dube proposed a vote of thanks.
