BANGALORE: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released a list of office-bearers, though the organising general secretary, the second most important post after that of the president, has not been appointed. Vaman Acharya, who has been made a vice-president, will continue to function as the organising general secretary, State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda told presspersons. Mr. Sadananda Gowda, who has been touring the various districts, said he had several more districts to cover, before deciding on the choice for the crucial job. "The organising general secretary will have to coordinate with party leaders and workers from all the districts and ensure the smooth functioning of the party on a day-to-day basis. I am sure I will find the right candidate after I have visited all the districts and made an assessment of the needs of the party," he said.
Vice-presidents
The five other vice-presidents are K.B. Shanappa, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha; the former Union Minister Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, MP; G.M. Siddesh MP; Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri, MLA; and A.G. Kodgi, former MLA. State Party spokesman S. Suresh Kumar has been made a general secretary along with the two MLCs Shobha Karandlaje and Aravind Limbavali. The six secretaries are N. Shankarappa from Raichur, Raghunath Rao Malkapure from Bidar, S. Kailash, V. Sunil Kumar from Dakshina Kannada, C.M. Nimbannavar from Dharwad and the former MLA M.D. Lakshminarayana from Tumkur. The Chickpet MLA, P.C. Mohan, continues as treasurer and Pralhad Joshi, MP, has been named party spokesman in the place of Mr. Suresh Kumar.
Electoral alliance
While the Janata Dal (Secular) has decided to go it alone in elections, its coalition partner, the BJP is for a discussion on the matter. Mr. Sadananda Gowda said that in the coming days, the party would discuss the issue of an alliance with its partner for the upcoming elections to urban local bodies and the Legislative Council. The BJP-JD(S) coordination committee, which met on Saturday to discuss the possibility of a pre-poll alliance, later decided that each partner would take the question back to their party forums and seek the opinion of the district unit presidents and workers. Though both parties had felt the pulse of the people and thought that the electorate would like to see the "partnership in the Vidhana Soudha" echoed in the upcoming elections to the urban local bodies, the party rank and file might have a different view, party sources said.
