Corrections and clarifications

The information on 1971 batch IPS officer D. Mukherji is incorrect, say a few readers, in the reports "Chief Secretary, DGP shifted" (Tamil Nadu, May 14, 2006, page 5) and "Alexander hands over charge to K.P. Jain" (Tamil Nadu, May 16, 2006, page 6). Before his appointment as the new DGP, Tamil Nadu, Mr. Mukherji was Director-General (Investigations), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Prior to that, he was an Additional Director with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was shifted from the CBI to the NHRC as DG (Investigations) in the first week of March.

Priyanka Vadra was incorrectly referred to in the caption of the PTI picture ("42.6 p.c. polling in Rae Bareli", May 9, 2006) as the polling agent for Congress president Sonia Gandhi. She was Sonia Gandhi's election agent, as the text said. (The report was on the recent by-election in Rae Bareli from where Sonia Gandhi sought re-election to the Lok Sabha). An election agent is an authorised representative of a candidate in an assembly or a parliamentary constituency. A polling agent is an authorised representative of a candidate at a polling station.

In "Parental pressure" ("Open Page", May 14, 2006), Khalil Gibran has been referred to as a Persian poet. A reader says this is incorrect. Most websites on Gibran refer to him as a Lebanese-American essayist, novelist, poet and artist.

"Sachin begins training at MRF" was the promo on page 1 top (May 16, 2006). The story however did not appear in the Kerala edition because of an error in space allocation. A reader has pointed out the omission.

The report "Bengal, Kerala score contrasting wins" ("Sport", May 16, 2006) said in the 70th minute, substitute Firoz found the target, with a neat through pass from K.P. Shakkir, in the Manindra Dutta Roy Trophy National under-21 football match at Jamalpur, Bihar. It was in the 90th minute, as a reader rightly points out.
