Tailenders save Lanka
LONDON: Nuwan Kulasekara made 64 out of the final score of 537 for nine to help Sri Lanka draw the first cricket Test against England on Monday. It was England's greatest setback since New Zealand's No. 11 Danny Morrison held its bowlers at bay for four hours in Auckland nine years ago and forced it to accept a draw.
Kulasekara and Chaminda Vaas went on to set a new Sri Lankan record for the ninth wicket with 105 off 273 balls and, with a little help from bad light and appalling England catching, held out. In all, Sri Lanka batted for 14 hours and turned certain defeat into a creditable performance in alien conditions, against an attack with its tail high.
