Little champ does native village proud

Tuni (East Godavari): Parents of nine-year-old B. Pratyusha and the villagers of Narsipatnam and residents of Tuni town did not expect that the girl would do wonders in FIDE world schoolgirls chess championship-2006.

Studying in fourth class in Sri Prakash Vidya Niketan, Tuni Pratyusha developed interest in chess from the age of three and her parents encouraged her to participate in different tournaments from her fifth year.

Good in studies too

Pratyusha was felicitated in Tuni recently for her achievement in getting the world schoolgirls chess championship held in Greece recently.

Pratyusha born in Koyyuru village in the agency area has excelled not only in playing chess but also in studies. Her coach R. Amarnath encouraged her to take part in her first tournament under-6 girls championship held at Nellore in 2003. She participated in six different tournaments in the State and for the first time went to Calicut to participate in the under-9 girls championship.

She secured the fourth place in the under-9 girls tournament held in Chennai in 2005 along with five other national tournaments.

The wonder kid secured the fifth place and won team gold medal in Asia under-8 International tournament held in Singapore in 2004.

Pratyusha told The Hindu that she was concentrating on the forthcoming Asian Underworld Youth Tournaments.

She is also going to take part in the Asian under-10 tourney in Iran in June and world FIDE under-9 tournament in Sri Lanka in July this year.

She will take part in two other competitions going to be held in Russia and Malaysia by the end of this year.

Sri Prakash, secretary, correspondent Ch.V.K.Narsimha Rao and joint secretary Ch.Vijaya Prakash sponsored all the tournaments that Pratyusha participated in and also in future.
