Zaheera's mother gets three months RI
Staff Reporter
MUMBAI:
A special court on Tuesday sentenced Sehrunissa, mother of Zaheera Sheikh, to three months rigorous imprisonment after finding her guilty of giving false evidence in the Best Bakery trial.
However, after her lawyer requested for time to appeal, the court gave her a month's time to appeal in the High Court and she was not taken into custody.
On Monday, special judge Abhay Thipsay had put questions to her about the perjury charges under section 344 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
However, once again she denied making the statements in question.
The special judge said she had given false evidence in spite of getting chances to reveal the truth and sentenced her to three months rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 500.
If she fails to pay the fine, she will undergo another 10 days of RI.
