`News on phone' service from AIR

Thiruvananthapuram: Now you can keep abreast of the latest news while on the move, even without a transistor. All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram, is all set to introduce a `News on phone' service for telephone subscribers.

The new value-added service will be available from 9.30 a.m. in English and Malayalam. For news in Malayalam, BSNL phone users within Kerala can call 125900 without using the STD code. From other phones, including mobile handsets, Malayalam news can be accessed by calling 0471- 2335702.

For news in English, BSNL subscribers can dial 125800 and from other phones, it can be accessed by calling 0471- 2335700. The system allows 30 people to access the facility at a time. The new service will be inaugurated on Wednesday by S.A. Thomas, chief general manager, BSNL Kerala Circle, at a function at the Akashwani Complex here. Additional Director General (News), News Services Division, AIR, Akshay Raut, and Director (Engineering), AIR Southern Region, N. Sreenivasan will attend the function.
