Chinnakada bus bay complex to be ready in three months

WORK IN PROGRESS: The bus bay under construction at Chinnakada.

KOLLAM: The bus bay complex being constructed by the Kollam municipal corporation at Chinnakada will be completed within three months. The complex will help ease the traffic congestion being experienced now along the Head Post Office- Saint Joseph's Convent Junction stretch.

The bus bay complex is being constructed by the corporation at a cost of Rs.15 lakhs.

The Kollam Development Authority acquired 25 cents of land and handed it over to the municipal corporation.

Since the land acquired is at a lower level than the road, a chunk of the money will be used for filling up the land with earth so as to reach the road level.

Town planning officer, Kollam municipal corporation, K.S. Sasikumar said that the bus bay will be 100 meters long and more than 17 meters wide.

As many as 10 to 12 buses can be parked inside the bay at a time. The complex will be tarred and fenced with railings by earmarking separate sections for buses bound for different destinations. Mr. Sasikumar said shelters for passengers and toilets would be constructed inside the bus bay under the second phase.
