KURNOOL: Sixty-seven couples were united at a mass wedding function sponsored by T.G. Venkatesh, former MLA, in connection with his 56th birthday here on Tuesday.
Priests conducted "homam" before the wedding and scrupulously followed all rituals. Giant electronic screens were arranged for the view of public. The organisers celebrated the event by bursting crackers.
Feast for families
Each couple was donated an amount of Rs.5,000, Mangalasutram, toe-rings and new clothes. Each couple was allowed to have 20 members of their families for the feast. A grand feast was arranged for 2,500 persons. The event cost Rs.10 lakhs for the organisers. Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairman B. Venkatramudu and others blessed the new couples. Meanwhile, TGV Trade Union, which celebrated the foundation day, hoisted the flag at 45 places. It is perhaps the only body promoted by an industrialist in the trade union history.
