CBDT seeks comments on I-T exemptions

CHENNAI: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has invited comments from the public on the desirability or otherwise of the continuance of a whole host of income-tax exemptions and deductions covering individuals, partnerships and companies, both domestic and foreign, and sectoral exemptions such as those relating to agriculture, scientific research and professions.

In a document posted on its website, the CBDT has listed as many 162 exemptions and deductions available at present to different kinds of assesses.

It has sought responses, along with supporting rationale, from the public on or before July 5.
