BJP booklet: Congress seeks Advani's apology

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday sought an apology from Bharatiya Janata Party leader L. K. Advani for lending his name to a book casting aspersions on the minorities, particularly Muslims. The book in question is a BJP booklet — written by J. P. Mathur and Makkhan Lal — and published by the party to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

The sixth in a series of books brought out by the BJP attributes the growth of the RSS to atrocities committed by Muslims on Hindus. Also, it uses offensive language against the minorities. Mr. Advani has written the foreword to the book.

Briefing mediapersons here, Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan said Mr. Advani should apologise to the nation in general and Muslims in particular for having allowed such a book to have come out under his patronage. The book, she added, exposes the communal colour of the BJP.
