HYDERABAD: If everything goes well as predicted by India Meteorological Department, the South-West monsoon is likely to set in the State on June 3, two days in advance of its usual arrival. On that day, it is expected to touch the fringes of Anantapur district. If it is not obstructed by any other atmospheric elements, the monsoon may touch Hyderabad by June 6, also two days in advance. However, it is doubtful if the monsoon will be bountiful like last year when heavy rains had filled all reservoirs and tanks in the State. IMD's prediction that the rainfall in the country under South-West monsoon may be 93 per cent of the long-term average normal with 5 per cent plus or minus deviation "holds good for Andhra Pradesh also", says Satya Kumar, director, State Met Office here. Meanwhile, as the summer peaks, heat wave conditions prevailed in Mahabubnagar and Medak districts on Tuesday due to dry winds sweeping from the north, across Rajasthan desert. The heat wave will continue on Wednesday too, according to a forecast made by the State Met Office. Medak had recorded the day's temperature at 46 degrees Celsius for the 24-hour period ending Tuesday morning, the State's highest in the season so far. There was isolated rain in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema with Salur recording a rainfall of one cm.
