Scribes urged to get set for new era in journalism

Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists Narender Reddy called upon journalists to equip themselves for the new era of journalism. Addressing a seminar on `Role of newspapers and electronic media in democracy' on Tuesday, he said the responsibility and workload of journalists had increased with the invasion of technology in a big way.

Modern journalists should be equipped to work on machines and dish out information fast. Saying that credibility became a serious issue now, he wanted journalists to uphold the credibility of information, which alone would save the profession.

He said the managements of newspapers had adapted to the changed environment but journalists were yet to change. He wanted journalists to be loyal to readers and society.

District Public Relations Officer S.M. Basha called upon journalist unions to check infiltration of selfish elements into the profession, which was tarnishing the image of the entire journalist community.
