CHENNAI: At the winning post of the second regional finals it was a neck-and-neck race.

The tiebreaker questions had the audience whispering answers and quizmaster and cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle issuing a warning `shhhh... '

Monday saw 48 participants from various corporate houses playing their best shot to outperform competitors, using not their muscles but their minds.

Fountainhead, an event management and marketing company, organised the corporate sports quiz titled Signature Sportz Buzz.

Participants included HCL, Infosys, The Hindu , Hexaware Technologies, Citibank, Global Reality Outsourcing, Silk Fort and Madras Metal Lurgical.

Twenty-four teams with two contestants each walked the extra mile in the hope of getting to the finals.

Four teams - Infosys, The Hindu (defending champion), IBM and Citibank qualified for the regional final, which had 10 rounds.

`Penalty shootout'

At the end of 10 rounds, Infosys and The Hindu went in for a 10-question `penalty shootout'.

With the winner yet to emerge, the two went into `sudden death' and at the end of more than five questions, Infosys emerged winner.

The audience wildly applauded the Infosys team comprising Vinod Ganesh and S. Prashanth, as the tiebreaker questions went on. The Hindu was represented by V.V. Ramanan and S. Srikanth.

The first regional finals was held on Thursday in Mumbai and the next three rounds will be held on Friday in Delhi; on May 20 in Kolkata; and on May 24 in Bangalore.

The final round will be held in Bangalore on May 26.
