HYDERABAD: The Osmania University has decided to keep the "C" (Kaveri) hostel open for students appearing for National Eligibility Test (NET) and CSIR examinations and candidates seeking the facility should submit the requests along with the proof of the test. The decision was taken by the officials on Tuesday following the developments on Monday night when students came out on the roads protesting against the university's decision to cut-off power supply and water supply to all the P.G. hostels. The Old P.G., NRSH and New PG, which are the research scholars hostels will however remain open.
Dharna staged
Tension prevailed on the campus on Monday night as Law hostel students staged a dharna protesting against disconnection of power to the hostels. Their contention was that they still had some more papers to clear in June. The timely intervention of Law College Principal G.B. Reddy ensured that power supply was restored late in the night. However, other hostels were not so lucky. OU Registrar M. Mutha Reddy said the Chief Warden will take a decision on the hostel to accommodate candidates appearing for competitive examinations. Only one of the two Ladies Hostels will be kept open. He said majority of students have already vacated their rooms . The hostels will be opened again after the vacation in July. Students have been opposing the closure of hostels stating that they were preparing for competitive examinations conducted by the UGC and CSIR.
