BANGALORE: `Magazines' is the name of the store on Church Street which sells, well... magazines. With over 3,500 copies, the shop will complete a year in Bangalore on July 1.

Shop owner Yahya Sait said the idea dawned on him all of a sudden while he was having dinner with his cousins and then there was no stopping him. Already co-owner of the Variety bookstore, he had no problems in starting another.

Renovations were completed in a record time of 15 days and by July 1 last year, the doors were open to customers. Ever since, business has been good mainly because of the variety the store offers as well as huge discounts of up to 90 per cent. For example, the magazine Collezioni, normally sold at the exorbitant price of Rs. 4,400 is sold at Rs. 449 in this store. Surina, a student, says, "It is nice to have a place where you can get a variety of magazines at reasonable prices. I come here for the British magazines."

Manager Amjad says, "I guarantee you will not be able to find this kind of variety at these prices anywhere in the country." The store offers a wide collection including magazines on fashion, automobiles, aviation, stamps, photography, health, business, politics, travel, cookery and music.

Music magazines such as Guitarist, Guitar Technique and Total Guitar are quite popular here. Autodesign is one of the hottest selling magazines at the store.
