CHENNAI: An early implementation of value-added tax, thrust on agro chemical industries and setting up of a State petroleum and natural gas prospecting and infrastructure corporation are among the expectations of the Chemical Industries Association from the new regime in Tamil Nadu. Congratulating the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on assuming charge, the Association president P.K.N. Panicker said effective follow-up was needed to ensure that one of the proposed mega chemical industrial estates, proposed by Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, is established in the State. The association, he said in a press release, wants the State Government to remove constraints on procurement and movement of industrial raw materials like methanol. On the thrust on agro chemical industries, he said in particular molasses-based alcohol should be promoted for industrial purpose and as alternate fuel.
