NEW DELHI: Wheat imports and other farmers' issues are expected to be discussed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. A calling attention motion by Pattali Makkal Katchi leader M. Ramadass on the issue of reservation will also be taken up. At a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, the Government agreed to the demands that the issue of wheat imports and the crisis in agriculture leading to suicide by farmers be discussed. Besides, a discussion on the communal situation, including the recent incidents in Vadodara, will be on the agenda. Next week could see the Lok Sabha take up price rise and the IPO scandal. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told reporters that the Government had in mind three pieces of priority legislation the Companies (Amendment) Bill, the Parliament (Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment Bill on office of profit, and the Small and Medium scale Enterprises Bill. The Lok Sabha already passed the first two and he hoped that the third would get attention in the remaining part of the session. Besides, there were the Reserve Bank of India (Amendment) Bill, the Government of India Securities Bill and the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill. If time did not permit, they would be carried over to the monsoon session. The amendment on the office of profit issue is expected to be taken up by the Rajya Sabha for consideration and passing on Wednesday.
