KOCHI: The Kerala Electricity Employees' Confederation has demanded that V.S. Achuthanandan be entrusted with the portfolio of Electricity. Confederation general secretary Sajeev Janardanan said at a press conference here on Tuesday that it would be a step in the right direction to ensure that Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) was retained in the public sector. He alleged that the board was segregated into three divisions during the tenure of Pinarayi Vijayan as the Electricity Minister. This was a precursory step to privatisation, Mr. Sajeev said and added that the effort did not materialise as the United Democratic Front Ministers who succeeded him retained the board in the public sector. The confederation is of the opinion that Mr. Achuthanandan had taken an impartial view in the SNC Lavalin issue. It was he who wanted the Canadian company to be blacklisted and had sought action against those involved in the scandal. Mr. Sajeev said the Lavalin case would be dealt with appropriately if Mr. Achuthanandan assumes charge of the Electricity Minister. Confederation vice-president V.P. Radhakrishnan and secretary K. Ramankutty were also present.
