Achuthanandan to offer floral tributes at martyrs' column

ALAPPUZHA: Chief Minister-designate V.S. Achuthanandan and 15 Ministers-designate of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the CPI will pay floral tributes at the Punnapra-Vayalar martyrs' column at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, the CPI (M) district committee has said.

Mr. Achuthanandan and others will later address public meetings. They will also offer floral tributes at the column at Alappuzha Vliyachudukad at 9.30 a.m.

CPI (M) Alappuzha district secretary and Minister-designate G. Sudhakaran offered floral tributes at various martyrs' columns in the district on Wednesday. He visited his ancestral home at Karimulakkal on Wednesday afternoon and sought the blessings of his mother, Pankajakshi Amma.

Later, Mr. Sudhakaran paid obeisance at the memorial of his brother martyr G. Bhuvaneswaran.

Mr. Achuthanandan had actively participated in the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising during the Forties.

The 19-member Ministry of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) will assume office at a swearing-in ceremony to be held at the State capital on Thursday.
