Shibu Baby John rules out quitting politics

Staff Reporter

Says RSP(B) is still a force to reckon with

KOLLAM: The Revolutionary Socialist Party (Bolshevik) leader Shibu Baby John, who lost the recent Assembly elections from Chavara, has ruled out the question of quitting active politics.

He told a press conference here on Wednesday that a political party did not cease to exist just because it had lost an election. He was reacting to statements made by RSP leaders that the RSP(B) had become a non-entity following the Assembly elections. The RSP(B) continues to be a force to reckon with, he said.

Mr. Shibu John, who lost to the RSP candidate N.K. Premachandran by a margin of 1,786 votes, alleged that the RSP won the Chavara seat by employing methods that did not befit RSP tradition.

Caste and communal factors were employed. Left parties supporting communal forces pose danger to the democratic tradition of the State. Some of the RSP leaders have gone to the extent of saying that the `Baby John factor' has now become insignificant. He wanted these leaders to leave the ailing leader alone.

To a question, he said there was no move right now for the merger of his party with the RSP (Marxist) led by Babu Divakaran. He felt that the leader of the splinter RSP faction A.V. Thamarakshan would soon return to the RSP.
