MIDC develops communicator mobile

It increases potential data revenue for mobile operators

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad-based Microsoft India Development Centre (MIDC) has developed `Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile' - a unified communications client integrating mobile applications with enterprise-grade, real-time communications tools.

Communicator Mobile, developed in collaboration with United Communications Group, is aimed at extending features of Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 and Microsoft Office Communicator to the Windows Mobile 2003 SE and Windows Mobile 5.0 platform, both Pocket PC edition and Smartphone. The product was developed completely at MIDC's centre of excellence for mobile devices.

It goes beyond simple voice services, incorporating connected communication modes like more secure instant messaging, presence awareness and integrated VoIP-telephony. It increases potential data revenue for mobile operators by driving demand for business-class devices with an enterprise-grade client, adding real-time collaboration capabilities to mobile data networks.

Microsoft's mission

According to MIDC vice-president and managing director Srini Koppulu, the release of Communicator Mobile is an endorsement of Microsoft's mission to innovate, energize and support Microsoft investments for the mobile user experience.

MIDC Mobile devices group director Sudeep Bharati said the project was conceived in the beginning of 2005, and MIDC was in a position to release the first version of the product in just over a year.
