CHITTOOR: On the concluding day of Gangamma Jatara here on Wednesday, hereditary trustee and former MLA C.K. Babu garlanded the idol of the goddess installed in the Bazaar Street.

Earlier, a pomp and gaiety marked the procession that was taken out from Ponniamma Gudi.

Special Correspondent in Tirupati writes: The week-long Gangamma Jatara concluded with `Chapralu' on Tuesday.

People were seen making a beeline to the temple to offer the customary `Pongallu' to the goddess. Some devotees carrying the decorated `Chapralu' on their shoulders were seen dancing to the rhythmic beats of `dappu'.

The temple witnessed a huge congregation, thanks to the elaborate arrangements made under the supervision of temple chairman Sudhakar Reddy and Executive Officer Sankar Naidu.

But the unexpected cloudburst in the evening and the resultant power failure that plunged the whole town into darkness, however, played spoilsport.
