For a concert in Singapore

Sunidhi Chauhan and Krishna Kumar Kunnath to perform

SINGAPORE: Multi-cultural Singapore is no stranger to Bollywood music. And, Arte Compass, which has presented Bollywood music here before, is now organising a concert by two exponents of Indipop and evocative Hindi film songs.

The event, scheduled for Friday, will be the latest in a series on different dimensions of Indian performing arts that the organisers have been showcasing in the city-state. Indian arts and culture seem to hold a popular appeal that transcends the ethnic lines here.

The upcoming concert, "Dus Bahane Dhoom Machale" (10 reasons to party this summer), will be rendered by Sunidhi Chauhan and Krishna Kumar Kunnath, better known simply as `KK.' For Arte Compass, which made its debut on the cultural scene here three years ago through a concert of "fusion music," this follows a memorable display of Indian and Western fusion-percussion. That event, "Kaleidoscope of Rhythms," featured Ustad Zakir Hussain, American drummer Terry Bozzio, Puerto Rican Giovanni Hidalgo and mandolin artist U. Srinivas.

Now the organisers expect Sunidhi and `KK' to put their talent to good effect and present "energetic, foot-tapping numbers."

Having started as a child prodigy, Sunidhi is stated to have developed a flair for not only "desi tunes" and the Bollywood ambience but Western pop music. `KK,' who formed a rock band early in his career and was a vocalist and drummer there, has rendered nearly 400 songs in Hindi, besides over 100 in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada.
