Protect culture of Tamil Nadu: Uma Bharti

Staff Reporter

Religious conversion high in the State

DINDIGUL: The aged-old tradition and culture of Tamil Nadu should be protected from nepotism and corruption that are rampant in the State, Bharatiya Jana Sakthi president Uma Bharti has said.

Religious conversion is very high in the State. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was in an ideological dilemma; lust for vote forced it to go to any level, she told presspersons here on Wednesday.

Welcoming the State Government's decision to make qualified Hindus `archakas,' she said the Government should introduce such reforms to cover Christianity and Islam to save them from the clutches of fanatical forces. Instead of controlling religious conversion and Islamic extremist activities, the Government was offering them concessions, she said.

Ms. Bharti said foreign forces were trying to capture the country through economic means.

"I totally support reservation. It should continue till disparities in education are eradicated. The Government should give equal opportunities to all children," she said.
