Ibobi escapes bid on life

Iboyaima Laithangbam

IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi had a providential escape on Wednesday morning when well-armed insurgents ambushed his convoy. However one police commando was hit in the leg and one unidentified insurgent killed. One loaded AK-47 rifle was also recovered from the slain insurgent.

Mr. Ibobi, some of his senior Ministers and Congress president Gaikhangam were proceeding towards Langmeidong in Thoubal district to organize a Congress party meeting. When the entourage reached Langmeidong some car-borne insurgents opened fire.

The Chief Minister and other Ministers however escaped unscathed. Security vehicles were damaged while one policeman was injured and one insurgent killed. The other insurgents fled the scene.
