Rayalaseema Tigers posts win

HYDERABAD: Rayalaseema Tigers recorded a hard-fought 2-1 win against State Bank of India in the A-Division Rahim league football championship at RRC Grounds here on Thursday.

The bankmen took the lead in the 10th minute when Hassan Ali latched on to a neat pass from Tariq to find the target. In the second session, the Tigers fought back well to score the equaliser through centre-half Faizal's solo effort in the 18th minute.

And within couple of minutes, Tigers settled got the match-winner through left-winger Khalifa off a long cross from the right by Mohammad.

Sunny wins title

C. Sunny of Sheikhpet Playground won the 25-28 kg category bout, out-punching S.K. Noman on points, in the MCH annual inter-summer coaching camps boxing tournament here on Thursday.

The results:

Boxing: 25-28 kg: C.Sunny (Sheikhpet PG) bt S.K. Noman on pts. 3rd place: P. Praveen (Ziaguda).

28-32 kg: Suresh (Sheikhpet PG) bt Vineet (Nehrunagar) on pts. 3rd place: B. Kamesh (QQSS).

32-35 kg: Sai Kiran (QQSS) bt Kiran Kumar (Ziaguda). 3rd place: B. Rahul & Sai Kumar.

38-42 kg: 1. N.P. Srikanth (Ziaguda) bt B. Chakravarthy (Nehrunagar). 3rd place: Imran & Ramakrishna.

Narrow win for AOC

AOC Centre scored a narrow, 96-80 win against Artillery Centre in the ATNK & K Area basketball tournament here on Wednesday.

The results: AOC 96 bt Artillery Centre 80; MEG bt ASC 95-34; EME bt CMP 46-38; AOC bt 25 Madras 80-34; EME bt MLIRC 57-34; AOC bt Kurukshetra 73-34.

APOA's condolences

Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association mourned the death of M. Keshava Reddy, a veteran sports administrator who worked both in the Sports Authority of India and also the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh.

In a message on Thursday, APOA secretary L. Venkatram Reddy recalled the late official's contribution spanning over three decades, particularly as the advisor to the State Government during the 2002 National Games.

Prof K. Ranga Rao, vice-president of APOA, felt that Keshava Reddy was knowledgeable in sports sciences and organised many seminars on the subject.

B.K. Haranath, president, Hyderabad Carrom Association, recalled Keshava Reddy's crucial contribution in allotting the Indra Prastha Indoor Stadium in Delhi for the inaugural World carrom championship when the latter was in the SAI.

Satyadeva Trophy chess

The inaugural Sri Satyadeva FIDE-rating open chess tournament for Satyadeva Trophy will be organised at Annavaram (East Godavari) from May 22 to 29 by the Kingmakers Chess Academy.

The winner will be richer by Rs. 50000 and the runner-up Rs. 30,000 and third-place Rs. 20000. Free accommodation will be given to the players.

SAAP camps visited

G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, SAAP VC & MD, visited the summer coaching camp centres at Saroornagar on Thursday and got a first-hand account of the facilities available from the trainees and the coaches.

The camps featuring boxing, volleyball, gymnastics and tennis evoked a huge response. The top SAAP official appealed to the trainees to make optimum use of the infrastructure available and also promised continued support to the performing individuals in the days to come.
