Proposal for textile park will be revived: Jagadish Shettar

Government plans to take up expansion of NGEF, Hubli


  • Land requirement for the textile park goes up to 50 acres
  • Some sections of NGEF, Bangalore, may be shifted to Hubli

    HUBLI: The Government has directed officials to look into the earlier proposal of establishing a textile park in Hubli and revise it according to present-day requirements, according to Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar.

    Addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Dharwad District Working Journalists' Association here on Wednesday, he said it had been decided to revive the earlier proposal for a textile park, which was mooted several years ago.

    According to the earlier proposal, there was only a requirement of 10 acres of land and now a minimum of 50 acres of land might be required for the purpose, he added.

    Mr. Shettar said the State Government was looking into the issue of expanding the New Government Electrical Factory (NGEF) unit at Hubli, which is making profits. With the Government deciding to close down the NGEF unit at Bangalore, the chances of shifting some sections of the factory to Hubli was is being looked into and a proposal in this regard has been submitted, he said.

    Reiterating the coalition government's commitment towards development of north Karnataka, he listed out the number of projects sanctioned and steps taken by the Government in their implementation.

    He said the State Government had sanctioned Rs. 2.65 crore for developing infrastructure in the Gokul Road Industrial Estate at Hubli. "The work has begun," he said.

    Mr. Shettar said a `Mini Vidhana Soudha' would be constructed at Hubli at an estimated cost of Rs. 5 crore. The Revenue Department had sanctioned Rs. 2.5 crore for the purpose. Efforts are on to get another Rs. 2.5 crore from the Public Works Department, he said.
