WORDY DUEL: Volunteers of the DSS arguing with police officials during the rasta roko agitation launched by the DSS in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Gulbarga on Wednesday.
GULBARGA: The Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Sagar) on Wednesday extended support to the agitation by retrenched contract labourers of the Gulbarga City Corporation and staged a rasta roko agitation in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office for more than 30 minutes.
Tiff with police
There was an argument between DSS volunteers and the police during the agitation when the police tried to clear the way for Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur to enter the Deputy Commissioner's office compound to participate in a meeting. After the argument, the agitators dispersed after shouting slogans demanding the reinstatement of contract labourers.
Meeting today
Meanwhile, the special general body meeting of the City Corporation scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the contract labour issue was postponed to Thursday due to the quarterly review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) in which corporation officials had to participate.
