SWR records 66 per cent growth in earnings

Hubli division handled 33.37 million tonnes of freight during 2005-06

HUBLI: The Hubli division of South Western Railway has registered a growth of 66.6 per cent in the overall earnings for 2005-06, K.D. Mainrai, divisional railway manager, SWR, has said.

Speaking at the 51st Railway Week celebrations of the division here on Tuesday, Mr. Mainrai said the earnings of the division increased from Rs. 1,089.71 crore to Rs. 1,816.28 crore.

The division handled 33.37 million tonnes of freight during 2005-06, registering a growth of 24.2 per cent. The freight traffic during the previous year was 26.85 million tonnes. Mr. Mainrai said the unreserved ticketing system was commissioned at 12 stations in the division during 2005-06.

Dwelling on the number of summer specials and other trains introduced during the year, the divisional railway manager said passenger traffic had increased by 20.44 per cent and added that there had been an increase in passenger earnings by 15.07 per cent. The division recorded passenger earnings of Rs. 13.59 crore during the year, compared to Rs. 10.84 crore in the previous year (2004-05).

Regarding the renovation of the railway hospital, he said state-of-the-art medical equipment had been installed at the hospital.

A new casualty block would come up at a cost of Rs. 1 crore and work on it had begun, he said.

Mr. Mainrai also listed out the development measures taken by the division.

Congratulating the employees for the excellent performance of the division, he hoped that it would be continued.

Presiding over the function, V. Pitchairaju, chief personnel officer, commended the Hubli division for its good show during 2005-06.
