US-based varsity tie-up with ANU on cards

Central Michigan University keen on MBA, MSc (Biotech) courses

  • Semester system in vogue at ANU.
  • Environmental Studies made compulsory to 2006-07 batch

    GUNTUR: Officials from Central Michigan University (CMU) in the United States will visit Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) on Sunday to hold discussions with the authorities for exploring possibilities of an academic collaboration.

    Disclosing this to The Hindu The Hindu here on Wednesday, ANU Vice-Chancellor V.Balamohandas said that the CMU team comprising Dean of Education, Dean of Sciences and the Liaison Officer would visit the campus. "The authorities have evinced keen interest in having an agreement with ANU on its MBA and M.Sc. (Bio-Technology) courses," Prof. Balamohandas said.

    Indoor stadium

    Earlier, he formally inaugurated the Lankapalli Bullaiah Indoor Stadium and the new block of the `Satavahana' boys hostel on the campus. The indoor stadium, which was completed in different phases, was constructed at a total cost of Rs.1 crore, while the 10-roomed hostel building, meant to house 30 students was constructed at a cost of Rs.15 lakhs.

    The Vice-Chancellor felicitated former ANU Physical Education Director Vijaya Rao, who was instrumental in the construction of the indoor stadium. The indoor stadium has facilities for volleyball, ball badminton, table tennis plus a modern gymnasium.

    Year-wise system

    Students who had enrolled for different courses under the year-wise examination scheme were given an extension of one year to complete their courses.

    "The ANU has already switched over to the semester system from 2002-03 onwards. This choice will be applicable to the students enrolled earlier and who had opted for the year -wise scheme," explained Prof. Balamohandas.

    Enviro sciences

    The meeting formally ratified the research guidelines prepared by the authorities and decided to conduct Board of Studies meetings to consider the changes in syllabus. Environmental Sciences was being introduced as a compulsory subject as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court. The new paper would be made compulsory for those who have taken admission in academic year 2006-07.
