TNPCEE begins today

73,294 to appear for Engineering test


  • 85 flying squads will be pressed into service to check malpractice
  • Anna University has asked students to avoid bringing sharp objects into examination hall
  • Examination to be held in 53 centres in Chennai

    CHENNAI: The admission process for undergraduate professional courses such as Engineering and Medicine officially begins on Thursday, when the Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examination (TNPCEE) gets underway in 304 centres spread across 41 cities in the State.

    The examination will be conducted on Thursday and Friday.

    While 73,294 candidates will appear for the Engineering entrance test, 15,833 candidates will take the Medicine examination.

    A total of 50,883 candidates will appear for both Engineering and Medicine tests while 3,825 will take the vocational entrance examination.

    A total of 4,760 candidates from other States will also take the examinations.

    Exam timings

    While the Biology examination (including vocational) will be held between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on Thursday, the Physical Sciences examination will be held between 2.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.

    The Maths examination (including vocational) will be held between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on Friday.

    Vocational examinations in Physics, Chemistry and Economics will also be held during the same time.

    Special buses to ferry candidates

    Anna University has written to District Collectors and the managing directors of all State Transport Corporations to arrange for special buses to ferry candidates to the examination venue.

    Apart from 41 co-ordinators in various centres, 85 flying squads will be pressed into service to check malpractice.

    The university has asked students to avoid bringing sharp objects such as knives into the examination hall and use only sharpeners.

    53 centres in Chennai

    In Chennai, the examination will be held in 53 centres. This includes the College of Engineering, Guindy, Queen Mary's College, Bharathi Women's College and Meenakshi College.
