GULBARGA: The two-day `Technovision-2006' showcasing innovative new-generation projects by final year students of different engineering colleges in the State, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, hosted by the Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering, was inaugurated on Wednesday by Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur. More than 160 projects in 12 disciplines of engineering ranging from an anti-terrorist vehicle, scramjet engine to a home automation system were exhibited on the sprawling complex of the engineering college.
Reminiscences
After inaugurating Technovision-2006, Mr. Darshanapur, himself a civil engineer and an alumnus of the Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering, recalled his student days in the college and his relations with the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. Mr. Darshanapur said that such events were a platform for students to exhibit their hidden talents. These also helped industries in the State and outside know the rich talent available in the region. Such exhibitions also gave the much-needed exposure to students. He said that the Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering has remained one among the top engineering institutes in the country. Mr. Darshanapur said that the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society had done yeoman service in extending professional education to the people of the region. Presiding over the inaugural function, college principal V.D. Mytri said the college was hosting the Technovision exhibition since 1994. It started as an event limited to final year students of the college. Later in 1995, the event was broadbased to include all engineering colleges in the region. In 1996, the first state-level Technovision exhibition was held.
Awards
He said that a panel of judges of teachers and industrialists would select the best two projects in each of the 12 disciplines for the final awards. Dr. Mytri said that the college was one among the 140 engineering colleges selected by the Union Government under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme. Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society Managing Council Member R.C. Dhotre spoke. Managing Council member Subhas Bijapure was present. Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Purohit welcomed the gathering and coordinator of Technovision 2006 G.M. Patil proposed a vote of thanks.
