KOTTAYAM: E.S. Bijimol, who has been elected from Peermade Assembly segment on a CPI ticket, on Wednseday resigned the membership of Idukki district panchayat. With this, Wagamon division under Idukki district panchayat is now vacant. The Left Democratic Front had 13 members in the 16-member panchayat. The CPI(M) has six, CPI, four and Kerala Congress (Joseph), three. With the resignation of Ms Bijimol, the ruling dispensation has an effective membership of 12. As such, there is no immediate threat to the LDF in Idukki. Currently, Sheela Stephen of the Kerala Congress (Joseph) is holding the presidentship. She has almost a year more as per an earlier agreement. The next in line is CPI. Ms Bijimol was expected to be the CPI candidate for the post. The CPI has one more woman member in the panchayat.
