LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey on Wednesday directed the State Government to make a statement in the House on the complaints of serious irregularities in the food for work programme in Sitapur district. Mr. Pandey's directions came after BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya, who raised the matter through an adjournment notice in the House, alleged that the District Development Officer, who detected the irregularities, was threatened by the contractor. Mr. Maurya also alleged that huge amount of money was paid to the contractors without any work. The Speaker, on an adjournment notice of BJP member Luxmi Kant Bajpai, decided to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the issue of holding elections to the urban local bodies. On another notice of Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tewari, the Minister for PWD Shivapal Singh Yadav assured to look into the demand of the retrenched Mandi Parishad employees to regularise their services after seeking legal opinion. The Government also assured to look into the alleged incident of cow slaughter in Ghaziabad district on May 12 last. Raising the matter the BJP member Narendra Kumar Sisodia alleged that 200 cows were slaughtered in Dhoraura area in Ghaziabad in connivance with the local police.- PTI
