Notices issued to Centre, Delhi Govt.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Centre and the Delhi Government Chief Secretary on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the respondents to make alternative arrangements for doctors to provide immediate treatment to patients visiting emergency wards and Out-Patient Departments (OPD) of various government hospitals in the Capital.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice S.N. Aggarwal directed the respondents to file their replies to the petition by June 1, the next date of hearing.

Doctors of government hospitals here are on strike in protest against the Union Government's proposal to provide reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBC) in institutions of higher learning, the petitioner, non-government organisation Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya, submitted.

ITBP team scales Mount Everest

NEW DELHI: A team of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has successfully scaled Mount Everest. While three members of the Third ITBP Mount Everest Expedition 2006 completed their ascent on Wednesday, seven others had scaled the peak on Sunday.

Ryan International schools get recognition

NEW DELHI: Eleven Ryan International schools have been awarded International Centre status by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), the world's largest provider of international qualifications for students aged between 14 and 19 years.

Ryan International schools in neighbouring Greater Noida, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Surat, Mumbai and Bangalore will now offer a range of internationally accepted qualifications recognised by universities, educational providers and employers across the world.

Violin performance

NEW DELHI: A violin performance by Kamleshwarr Verma was the highlight of an entertainment programme organised for Tihar Jail staff at the jail residential complex on Monday.

While the programme also witnessed participation by several well-known singers, it was the rendition of popular Hindi film songs "Kajra re", "Dil le gaye, le gaye" and "Chalte chalet" on the violin that enthralled the audience.
