THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan wrested from the UDF Government many undue benefits during the last five years, Youth Congress State president K.P. Anil Kumar has alleged. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Anil Kumar challenged Mr. Natesan's contention the other day that he had sought no favours from the UDF Government. "The favours he had extracted from the Government are too many to be listed. He had consistently misused his position as the Yogam general secretary to force the Government to dish out favours for his personal benefit," Mr. Anil Kumar alleged. Citing examples, he said the UDF Government had sanctioned a nursing school for the SNDP attached to a hospital in Kollam district. This school was to be called `Sree Narayana Nursing School.' The name of this school was turned to `Vellappally Shashtabdapoorthi Nursing School' at the instance of Mr. Natesan, Mr. Anil Kumar said. Mr. Natesan lobbied and got postings for his men as members of the Travancore Devaswom Board, Guruvayur Devaswom Board and Kadampuzha Devaswom Board. He also forced the Government to post his men as Vice-Chancellors and Pro Vice-Chancellors and chairpersons of certain corporations. He had even sent many letters to the Government recommending the names of officials who should be posted at some of the key border check-posts in the State, Mr. Anil Kumar alleged. The Youth Congress had, from time to time, voiced its protest within the Congress against the party's propensity to buckle under pressure from leaders representing various religious and communal organisations, he said.
